'The lying machine' (2016)

mixed media, 54 x 21 cm

This piece was made for an art competition I entered, that took place outside of school. It was the annual 'Youth art awards' in a far away land, the prize being thousands of dollars (I don't know if I'm allowed to disclose this information). Unfortunately, I didn't win any money, or have any 'honourable mention'. Nonetheless, I had a good time, for the most part.

Contestants were given a theme to base their art on, which was 'unseen'. Usually these things are so vague that anything could be accepted, even a painting of a butterfly, which won first prize, I think....

Yeah. Oh well.

You may be wondering what influenced me to come up with this thing. I mean, I could say "This piece is a reflection of the corrupt nature of industrialisation and its destructive behaviour on the environment." But of course, that's no fun. Why would you want to read about that?

Seriously, why?
